Objectives

The objective of this seminar is to equip students with concepts related to organizational development and learning. Organizational development refers to the study of organizational structure, environment, and performance. Organizational learning refers to the ability for an organization to increase its “knowledge” through its systems, values, and culture. Students will also learn to apply these concepts into practical settings.

Contents of the Course

Under organizational development, the procedures that increase organizational effectiveness will be outlined. This includes planned organizational change, which occurs over long periods of time, depending on personal and situational factors. In organizational change, quality management (QM) processes need to be understood and updated.

Organizational learning is inherently a theme in organizational development, with focus on improving current systems present in the organization, and creating or changing the values and culture in the company to be aligned with updated organizational goals.

Students will learn how to combine these two concepts and use them in a practical setting via case studies. Students are to choose an organization in the industry they plan to work in in the future and analyse the current structure, QM procedures, and performance, and suggest improvements in management and organizational processes using knowledge acquired in this seminar.

Methods

Lectures, teaching interaction during class, individual and group assignments, discussions, and active participation.

Voraussetzung für die Vergabe von ECTS-Punkten ist das Bestehen der Prüfungsleistung für das Gesamtmodul. Die Prüfungsleistung für diese Kurseinheit geht zur Hälfte in die Prüfungsleistung für das Gesamtmodul ein.
